Protect yourself from phishing scam emails

Scammers are sending fake scam emails claiming to be from the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS).

The emails would direct victims to provide their credit/debit card information on linked websites in order to receive refunds. Scammers would then make unauthorized charges to victims’ cards.

Here’s what you need to know:  

  • How Scammers Use Fraudulent Links 
Never click on the links in scam emails, you may be led to a spoofed IRAS or bank website that asks for your personal information. Scammers use this information for identity fraud or to download malware onto your device. 
 
Sometimes, the links may download malware such as viruses, ransomware, spyware or adware on your device.
 
  • How to Protect Yourself  
Never give out your personal or banking details to anyone. Update your contact details with Singpass and enable notifications to be alerted of suspicious log-ins. 
 
  • What’s Legit from IRAS? 

IRAS will never ask for your confidential information via email. Check that the sender’s email address ends with @iras.gov.sg to ensure it’s legitimate. 

If you receive a suspicious email, do not click on any links or give out any information. Report the email to IRAS and delete it immediately.

 

Stay safe by being vigilant and verifying the authenticity of any email claiming to be from IRAS. Remember, IRAS will never ask for your confidential information via email.
